The 2026 English Greyhound Derby reaches its conclusion this weekend as six of the sport’s top stars line up in the final at Towcester. With a place in greyhound racing history up for grabs and a substantial winner’s prize on offer, anticipation is building for one of the biggest events on the racing calendar. Here, we take a look at the runners, assess their chances, and pick out the best betting opportunities ahead of Saturday night’s showpiece.
This year’s showpiece is an all Irish affair, with all five finalists trained in the Emerald Isle. Sadly, Lennies Tank is a non-runner due to injury.

English Greyhound Derby 2026 Finalists & Trap Draw
1.Ballymac Duffle – Liam Dowling
2. Ballymac Ralf – Liam Dowling
3. Lennies Eddie – Paul Hennessy
4. Hackney Corner – Pat Buckley
5. Ballymac Deniro – Liam Dowling
6. VACANT
1. Ballymac Duffle
Ballymac Duffle produced some scintillating performances early on in the competition and his last two runs have slightly been below par. He is back on the inside in Trap 1 for the final and trainer Liam Dowling was quite confident of a big run when he spoke to the Racing Post at the trap draw on Monday.
“We wanted Duffle inside Ralf, he’s well drawn. Derby final night is a unique occasion, he’s quite laid-back and powers home. Between the two brothers [Duffle and Ralf], coming here Duffle was the faster, even if there was little between them. But Ralf ran a super race to get to the final.”
Ballymac Duffle broke the track record in the opening two rounds but was badly crowded on his penultimate run on 23rd May and done well to qualify for the semi-final. He got a similar run last weekend when finding trouble but ran on to be beaten four and a quarter lengths. You would expect a little more improvement to come from an inside pitch and if he can clear the blue, he is one of the main contenders. 28.31 is his fastest winning time so far.
2. Ballymac Ralf
As we seen above trainer Liam Dowling wanted Duffle on the inside of Ralf and that is the way the draw was laid out. Ballymac Ralf has yet to be out of the first two in the competition so far and the main question will be the early pace sectional into the opening bend. He will look for a rails run and like he did in the quarter final he cut back into the middle of the track.
You would likely think that Liam Dowling might be hoping for a trouble-free run for both into the opening corner and see what happens down the back. 28.36 is his fastest winning time in the competition to date.
3. Lennies Eddie
Similar to Ballymac Ralf, Lennies Eddie has yet to finish outside the top two in the competition. A win in round three was his best performance when he found plenty of trouble and won by 1 ¾ lengths in a time of 28.66. A 3.84 split will leave him slightly on the backfoot against the two inside runners but any trouble could help him as they turn down the backstraight. 28.66 is his fastest time in the competition so far.
4. Hackney Corner
Pat Buckley has this dog in excellent form and three victories from five runs around Towcester so far, 28.34 was an electric run last time and is he hitting form at the right time? The early pace to this race will be key and he is another where the sectional split was consistent with 3.82s on a couple of occasions he produced a 3.73 split in the semi-final to win by four lengths going away. The 28.34 that he produced last time was his fastest time by some way.
5. Ballymac Deniro
This black dog by Ballymac Finn out of Ballymac Arminta won his quarter final and semi-final in scintillating fashion and the times were rapid also. 28.21 and 28.15 with the 3.78 and 3.74 splits. If he can produce this in the final he is another that could be looking for a run on the outside and with Lennies Tank a NR in Trap 6 this could open it up nicely for the third runner for trainer Liam Dowling. 28.15 is his fastest time in the competition so far and that was in the semi-final.
“He’s laid-back and a gentleman who has got used to the traps. He’s focused on the job and has to do it on the night.”
English Greyhound Derby 2026 Verdict
Its simply the early pace battle into the opening bend, I think Ballymac Duffle will come back to form and get the inside run and pull clear down the back for a tidy success.
Only five greyhounds in the race so only the first two needed, Ballymac Duffle to see off Ballymac Ralf.
The brothers to fill the first two places.
Forcecast: Ballymac Duffle – Ballymac Ralf.
