Magical On Fire Wins Thrilling Laurels Final

Magical On Fire Blazes to Glory in the €30,000 Bar One Racing Irish Laurels Final

Magical On Fire produced a sensational late surge to capture the Bar One Racing Irish Laurels Final at Curraheen Park on Saturday night, securing the €30,000 winner’s prize and becoming the second consecutive bitch to lift the famous trophy.

Sent off at a generous 13/2 from the tricky trap four, Patrick Guilfoyle’s charge showed tremendous determination, reeling in long-time leader and race favourite Solo And Go in the final strides. After a tense photo finish confirmed the result, jubilant celebrations followed for Guilfoyle and connections as the handler landed his second Irish Laurels success, adding to the 2022 triumph with Good Cody.

For Kerry GAA superstar David Clifford, it was a case of so near yet so far. Fresh from being crowned Footballer of the Year just 24 hours earlier, Clifford, who co-owns Solo And Go with his brother Paudie, had to settle for second place after a thrilling contest that had the packed Cork crowd on their feet.

Lemon Joey, trained locally by Murt Leahy, ran a gallant race in third, overcoming early crowding to fill the frame.

Reacting to tonight’s final, Bar One Racing’s Kieran Burke said: “What an incredible race to round out a brilliant month of racing at Curraheen Park, who have put on a wonderful show throughout. Solo And Go looked home and hosed, but Magical On Fire ran a huge race from trap four and is a worthy champion.”

“While a win for Solo and Go would have made for some great reading given his illustrious owners, Magical On Fire has certainly saved our book.”

The 2025 Bar One Racing Irish Laurels Final once again underlined why it remains one of the premier events on the Irish greyhound racing calendar, combining high-class competition, passionate local support, and a generous prize fund that rewards true racing excellence.
