Apprentice jockey Reese Holohan is one of Irish racing’s promising young talents.
The 19-year-old from Mountrath, Co. Laois, enjoyed a breakthrough spell at Dundalk over the autumn and winter, landing his first career winner and continuing to make a name for himself on the Irish racing circuit.
We caught up with Reese to discuss how he got started in racing, his biggest inspirations, favourite racecourses, and the horse he believes is worth keeping an eye on.

Where Are You From?
I’m from Mountrath, Co. Laois.
How Did You Get Into Racing?
I always had ponies and got into hunting. Then Vicki Sheeran introduced me to pony racing and I got the bug for it — I’ve never looked back since.
Which Jockeys Did You Idolise Growing Up?
I looked up to both Flat and National Hunt jockeys.
Ruby Walsh, AP McCoy, Colin Keane, Shane Foley and Dylan Browne McMonagle were all jockeys I admired growing up.
Tell Us About Your First Winner
My first winner came at Dundalk over the winter on Benavente for Denis Hogan on December 17th, 2025.
It was a shock at first, but then it was really exciting looking back on it.

You Enjoyed A Strong Autumn/Winter Spell At Dundalk – Is There Any Track Bias?
I find that since they changed the slip rail, there is no difference which part of the track you come up.
What Is Your Favourite Racecourse?
I really like Leopardstown and the Curragh.
They’re the top tracks in Ireland, they’re very well set up and they ride really well.
What Is The Toughest Track You’ve Ridden?
The toughest course I’ve ridden so far is Gowran Park.
If you get a bad break from the stalls, it’s tough to get the leaders to come back to you.

What Race Would You Most Like To Win?
I’d love to win any Classic.
They’re the races everyone watches growing up.
Horse To Follow This Season
I think Monvoe, the horse I won on at Leopardstown, is one to follow.
He’s won two on the bounce now and won with plenty in hand, so I’d like to think there’s plenty more to come from him.
What Are Your Hobbies Outside Racing?
I used to play hurling and football when I was younger before moving into boxing.
