12:44 – Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Chase, 3m2.5f
Course form can count for a lot at this sharp, undulating venue. JETEYE won over c/d on Sept 14 when rated 95 and runs here off 99, with Rebecca Hitchens taking 8lbs off his back. The first-time-visored Lights Are Green would hold a decent chance based on his 2024 form, but Luminaries has finished well beaten on his two runs over fences here so far.
Selection: Jeteye
13:19 – Juvenile Hurdle, 3yos, 2m 178y
Dan Skelton and Harry Skelton team up here with MOMENT OF JOY – their only runner on the card – who will be a strong favourite. He won on his hurdling debut at Newton Abbot before being beaten a neck at Market Rasen, after which he had a breathing operation. This is his first run since then. The obvious danger, who will receive 7lbs from Moment Of Joy, is Brian Ellison’s Jambearee, who ran well when second at Wetherby last time out. He looks well capable of winning a race of this nature. Bred by Shadwell, Al Qatem has a nice pedigree but was picked up for just 3,600gns in August.
Selection: Moment Of Joy
13:54 – Mares’ Maiden Hurdle, 2m 3f 188y
Jamie Snowden’s horses are running particularly well, so any money for point-to-point winner ANOTHER CLASSIC, who cost connections £34,000, would be interesting on her hurdling debut. Charlie Longsdon’s horses are also running well, and he runs Roxy Russell, who will arrive here fit following a second-place finish at Fontwell. Letmeseethecolts will race in first-time cheek-pieces and Midnight Bella for the first time since a breathing operation. The latter ran well when second at Newcastle when last seen.
Selection: Another Classic.
14:29 – 2m77y handicap chase
The most-competitive race on the card, with three C&D winners. These include CLEAN GETAWAY, who won over C&D when rated 86 in April and will run off 85 today. He beat Natural Ability by 1.75 lengths that day, and they meet on the same terms here. Getaway Jewel is just 2lbs above a winning mark from Worcester in August and cheek-pieces go on for the first time and Brian Hughes has been booked to ride. Watch your Getaways: they could be good for the forecast. Treaty Boy bolted up at Kelso last time, but this track would be a lot different to that one.
Selection: Clean Getaway.
15:04 – Handicap Hurdle, 2m 178y
ELEMENTAL EYE beat Curious Mrs Fox (who runs in the last race on the card) over 2m at Perth last time out from a 3lbs-lower mark than today. He remains competitive on what will be his first run here. Lightly raced, Gintime, who won a maiden hurdle here 11 months ago and hails from a strong stable, can’t be ruled out of a good run. Flat winner Chicago Storm surely has more to give over hurdles, and Cadillac Ranch has run solidly on his last two visits here. Overall, though, Elemental Eye gets a solid-enough vote.
Selection: Elemental Eye
15:39 – Novices’ limited handicap hurdle, 2m 3f 188y
CURIOUS MRS FOX catches the eye here following her short-head second to Natural Ability (who runs earlier on the card, at 14:29) over C&D last time out (Oct 18). A repeat of his Taunton run a year ago would offer hope to Brave Move, while a breathing op and first-time cheek-pieces could improve the locally-trained Art Dancer. Watch the market for clues. Lynxman showed promise on the flat, but three hurdle runs will need improving upon for him to get involved as he makes his handicap debut.
Selection: Curious Mrs Fox
