Ballymac Setanta Equals Track Record as Bar One Racing Irish Laurels Reaches Semi-Finals
Ballymac Setanta remains unbeaten in the 2025 Bar One Racing Irish Laurels after the Liam Dowling-trained star equalled the track record during a brilliant Quarter-Final heat victory at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.
The son of Ballymac Kingdom produced a powerful performance to get the better of competition favourite Solo And Go, securing a third straight win for last year’s English Greyhound Derby-winning handler. Ballymac Setanta stopped the clock at a stunning 27.81 seconds and is now one of just two unbeaten contenders left in the prestigious €60,000 competition.
Droopys Patriot, runner-up in the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup Final at Dundalk Stadium earlier this year, also remains perfect after three rounds. His 27.99 run from Round One remains his fastest time of the tournament, keeping him firmly in contention heading into the semi-finals.
Another Sprint Cup finalist still in the mix is Ballymac Brandon, who booked his spot in the last twelve with his first win of the campaign in the Quarter-Finals.
A consistent improver throughout the heats has been the Patrick Guilfoyle-trained Magical On Fire, who landed his first heat victory on Saturday in a rapid 27.89 seconds. After finishing third, second, and now first across his three outings, the 2022 Laurels-winning trainer looks to have his charge peaking at just the right time.
Despite finishing behind Ballymac Setanta in the previous round, Solo And Go remains the outright favourite to lift the trophy. The greyhound is owned by Kerry’s All-Ireland-winning Clifford brothers, Paudie and David, who are chasing yet more sporting success with their aptly named runner.
The 2025 Bar One Racing Irish Laurels continues this Saturday night at Curraheen Park with the eagerly anticipated semi-final stage. The final is set for Saturday, November 8, and will be broadcast live on Virgin Media TV.
