Clifford Brothers Dreaming of Bar One Racing Irish Laurels Glory
Two of Kerry’s All-Ireland heroes are chasing more silverware, this time in the world of greyhound racing. It’s already been a remarkable year for David and Paudie Clifford, who led Kerry to Sam Maguire glory during the summer, but the Fossa brothers now have their sights set on the Bar One Racing Irish Laurels.
Their greyhound, Solo And Go, is owned by the Kingdom Palace Syndicate, of which the Clifford brothers are members. True to his name, Solo And Go has been a model of consistency on the track — winning five of his 15 starts and finishing in the top three on 12 occasions.
A third-round qualifier in this year’s Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park, Solo And Go has shown real resilience once again in the Bar One Racing Irish Laurels. After a disappointing fourth-place finish in his opening heat, he bounced back in fine style to claim victory in a time of 28.15 in round two.
That impressive display has seen him installed as 7/2 joint-favourite for the prestigious Cork competition, which carries a €30,000 winner’s prize.
Given the Clifford brothers’ role in Kerry’s victories over Cork en route to the All-Ireland title earlier this year, a win for their syndicate at Curraheen Park on Saturday, November 8th, might not go down too well with Rebel supporters.
The Bar One Racing Irish Laurels Final will be broadcast live on Virgin Media TV, but before any celebrations can begin, Solo And Go must first come through this weekend’s crucial Quarter-Finals heats.
