Quick Fire Questions

Age: 25

From: Shropshire, England

How did you get into racing?

My gran, Sheila Crow, used to train a lot of point-to-pointers. She won the Foxhunters in 2009 with Cappa Bleu, who later finished second in the Grand National in 2013.

My dad was National Champion Point-to-Point rider twice, so I was always around the yard growing up. I had ponies from a young age, so it was probably inevitable that I would end up in racing.

Which jockeys did you idolise growing up?

It wasn’t just one. I looked up to both Ruby Walsh and Sir AP McCoy.

The wins on Barton Snow at Cheltenham and Aintree must have given you an incredible buzz?

They were both fantastic.

It was strange because I had studied the races so much beforehand that on the day it almost felt like I was just going through the motions of another race. It didn’t really hit me until the following week and then it felt like I was walking on air all the time.

Living off the high of those two victories was incredible. It was a real dream come true.

What is your favourite racecourse and why?

It would have to be Cheltenham.

Everyone dreams of having a winner there and to have two now is just incredible. The Festival is where everybody wants to win. It’s magical.

Which racecourse is the toughest to ride?

I wouldn’t say there is a toughest course.

Every track has different characteristics and as long as the horse suits those characteristics, you’re fine. If they don’t, then you’re in for a long ride.

What race would you most like to win?

I’d love to win the Cheltenham Foxhunters again.

How many winners have you ridden?

I have ridden 63 Point-to-Point winners and 15 winners under Rules, giving me a strike rate of 27%.

Which horse should racing fans follow next season?

I’d have to say Barton Snow again.

If he could complete the double again next season, it would be amazing.

What hobbies do you enjoy away from racing?

I’m big into my fitness. I do a lot of running and spend plenty of time in the gym.

Between running the farm and riding out for other trainers, I don’t have much spare time for anything else to be honest.
