What is the Punchestown Festival? Dates, History & Key Races Explained

The Punchestown Festival is one of Ireland’s premier horse racing events, held annually at Punchestown Racecourse. Taking place from April 28th to May 2nd in 2026, the five-day meeting marks the finale of the National Hunt season, featuring top-class Grade 1 races and often high-profile rematches from the Cheltenham Festival.

Classics: 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas

For owners, trainers, jockeys and grooms, the Classics are the most coveted races in the world of thoroughbred horseracing. First up in the calendar are the 2,000 Guineas, which will be run this year on Saturday May 2nd, and the 1,000 Guineas, which will be run a day later, Sunday May 3rd.

What is a Single Bet

Single bets offer lower risk and more consistent returns because each wager stands alone. Unlike accumulators, one losing selection doesn’t impact the others, giving bettors greater control over their bankroll, quicker payouts, and a clearer way to assess value on each individual pick.

What is a Double / Treble Bet?

A double bet combines two selections into one wager, while a treble combines three. For the bet to win, all selections must be successful. If one selection loses, the entire bet fails. Doubles and trebles are popular because they offer higher potential returns than single bets, without needing as many selections as an accumulator.
