Daniel Hillier
The New Zealander, who finished second for us last week, will be looking to go one better in a tournament he has a solid record in. A Top 25 finish in 2024 was followed by a T38 last year, but his opening round last year saw him open with a 67 to be only two shots off the lead. His opening 74 was his undoing last week, as he followed that up with 64-64-67 and thus ended up only two shots off the winner, Eugenio Chacarra.
His consistency has been key of late; he hasn’t missed a cut in his last six events and has two runner-up finishes during that time. A win here would be a major step forward in showing his ambition, and 2026 has been much better than 2025. His greens-in-regulation stat of 72.7% shows that he will have more birdie chances if the putter gets hot.
Thomas Detry
The Belgian has shown some form of late and comes back to Korea after finishing T7 here last year. He finished eighth at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and followed that with a T9 last week in India. His four rounds were quite solid, but the third of the four was more than likely the one that put him slightly on the back foot. 67-69-72-68 shows that he has the ability to go low, and if the putter can find some form, he could go very close this week.
The driving average of 308.2 yards shows that his power and accuracy off the tee are one of his strong points. The counterargument is that at times the putter will let him down. If he can show some consistency, then he is another who could be involved this week.
Jordan Gumberg
A little further down the market is an interesting American, Jordan Gumberg, who finished T7 here last year. He had a run of missed cuts of late but came back to form when T23 in India last week. It could be perfect timing as he gets back to a venue that he has form at. He is a previous Asian winner when he won the Hainan Classic, and much like the other two players, his putter can blow hot and cold.
At a triple-figure price, he could surprise a few this week. Four consistent rounds last year of 70-69-71 and 68 would get him into contention, but a little improvement could see him involved higher up the leaderboard.
