NEWCASTLE v EVERTON PREVIEW
Newcastle United and Everton meet for the second time in the space of just five days, following on from the Toffees 3-1 victory in the league cup midweek. However, if Everton are to replicate such a result in the Premier League, David Moyes’ side are going to have to put some fairly rotten away form behind them.
Everton are now winless in their last nine away league games, but their last win away from Hill Dickinson Stadium came in this fixture last season. A late Thierno Barry goal gave Everton all three points at St James’ Park in a five-goal thriller (2-3).
Another enthralling contest could be on the cards, and while Everton’s away form is a big concern, they travel to face a Newcastle side who are struggling to adapt under their new boss, Matthias Jaissle. Newcastle have faced a league-high 138 shots this season, while attacking threats such as Yoane Wissa and Will Osula have struggled for form.
By contrast, Everton appear a more settled outfit under the experienced David Moyes. The Toffees have lost just two of their 11 games in all competitions this season, with both defeats coming against Chelsea and Arsenal.
Those losses did arrive back-to-back, meaning Everton risk suffering three consecutive league defeats if they come up short on Monday night. However, given that Moyes has not overseen such a run since 2011, there is reason to believe his side can arrest the slide at St James’ Park.
Newcastle earned a much-needed victory over Crystal Palace in their most recent league outing, but that result does little to disguise their wider struggles. The Magpies have lost three of their last four games in all competitions, including a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Coventry. With consistency proving elusive, it’s difficult to place too much faith in Matthias Jaissle’s side at present.
TEAM NEWS
Lewis Miley, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Will Osula are all facing late fitness tests after missing Newcastle‘s last two games. Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen remain sidelined.
For Everton, Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to return after missing the cup victory through concussion. Jack Grealish was left out of the squad after failing to report for training and could be omitted again.
H2H HISTORY
Newcastle suffered a 3-1 defeat to Everton in Thursday night’s EFL Cup clash, while the Magpies have won just one of their last six Premier League meetings with the Toffees (D2, L3).
Everton have also won their last two league visits to St James’ Park and will be bidding to make it three consecutive victories on Tyneside for the first time in their history.

PREDICTED LINEUPS
Newcastle United XI (Predicted): Hornicek; Dedic, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Nico, Joelinton; Elanga, Willock, Barnes; Wissa.
Everton XI (Predicted): Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Armstrong, Garner; Rohl, Dewsbury-Hall, George; Barry.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Newcastle had no answer to Thierno Barry in the EFL Cup, with Everton’s striker scoring once and setting up another. The Frenchman could be ready to haunt the Magpies again on Monday night.
Barry has repaid David Moyes’ faith with seven goals in 11 starts this season, while his movement inside the penalty area has improved considerably.
The 23-year-old has also been particularly prolific in front of goal, registering 39 shots across those 11 appearances, with 21 finding the target.
The Toffees forward is available at a boosted price of 9/4 to score anytime on Monday.
NEWCASTLE v EVERTON PREDICTION & BETTING TIPS
Despite their poor away form, Everton should have little reason to fear a trip to St James’ Park, particularly with the possibility that the atmosphere could turn sour if things fail to go Newcastle’s way.
The Magpies’ attacking players are struggling to make an impact, while their underlying numbers suggest there could be further trouble ahead. Based on expected goals (xG), Newcastle should currently sit second-bottom in the Premier League table, highlighting just how far they are falling short of expectations.
With Newcastle allowing opponents too many opportunities in front of goal and Everton boasting an in-form striker in Thierno Barry, the Toffees have the tools to leave St James’ Park with another positive result.
