Everton v Crystal Palace, Sat, 15:00

Everton failed to make the Hill Dickinson feel like home following their move from Goodison Park last season and the Toffees may again come unstuck at home against Conference League winners Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have also enjoyed FA Cup and Community Shield success in recent seasons and while the man who led them to those glories, Oliver Glasner, has moved on to Nottingham Forest, the South London outfit have managed to keep hold of France striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and Senegal wideman Ismaila Sarr. At the other end, they have lost Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea, having also sold Marc Guéhi in January, so Palace may find themselves vulnerable at the back.

However, pound for pound, Palace look more threatening in the final third than Everton, who have lost the creative spark of Jack Grealish. Crystal Palace claimed the third-highest proportion of their Premier League points on the road (53%) last season, and look good value to come away with something on Saturday.

Best Bet: Crystal Palace draw no bet (13/10)

Ipswich v Sunderland, Sat, 15:00

Ipswich return to the Premier League having wasted little time in recovering from relegation, securing an immediate top-flight return with a second-place finish in the Championship. That promotion came under Kieran McKenna, but the manager has since moved on, with Gary O’Neil taking over after leaving Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.

O’Neil will be keen to put his previous Premier League experience behind him after a difficult spell at Wolves, where he managed just two victories across his final 19 league games (D3, L14). Ipswich, meanwhile, have their own unwanted record to avoid after ending last season with nine successive defeats at Portman Road. Another loss would see them become only the fourth team in English top-flight history to suffer 10 consecutive home defeats.

While Sunderland earned 33 of their 54 points at home during a remarkable return to the top-flight last season, the Black Cats did find their feet on the road towards the end of the season with a final day victory at Stamford Bridge securing Sunderland a third win in five away league games and with it Europa League football.

“Second season syndrome” fears, combined with the strenuous demands of juggling European and domestic duties, have seen Sunderland priced as short as 3/1 for relegation this term. A lack of transfer activity has also cooled expectations, but they did manage to keep star midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Sunderland will need to get off to a strong start before their schedule gets busy with Europe, and having started their last two league campaigns with a win, they’ll fancy their chances against one of the newly promoted sides.

Best Bet: Sunderland draw no bet (17/20)

Brentford v Tottenham, Sat, 17:30, Sky Sports Premier League

Tottenham are keen to right the wrongs of a dire couple of years in the Premier League, so much so that they’ve finally opened the chequebook and spent over €300 million on new players. Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Savinho have all arrived in a bid to turn Tottenham’s fortunes around.

Spurs were ravaged by injuries last season, so a return to fitness for the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Mohammed Kudus will make them feel as if they are new signings. Dominic Solanke also had a stop-start campaign, but he should have no supply issues if Tottenham can keep their aces fit this term.

Brentford massively overachieved under Keith Andrews last season. Replicating those heroics is likely to prove difficult. However, having brought in Mamadou Sangaré from Lens for a club record fee and having kept top scorer Igor Thiago, they should be a thorn in many a side again this season.

Best bet: BTTS Yes (11/20)
