KERRY
In the Munster semi-final Kerry were workmanlike rather than impressive in overcoming a dogged Clare side. They won by eight points in the end on a scoreline of 2-19 to 1-14.
David (1-07) and Paudi Clifford (1-03) impressed as ever, a couple of David Clifford two-point efforts dropping short and one seized by his brother ended up in the back of the net and the same with the other goal which resulted in a scramble but ended up in the back of the net.
David had a quite eventful afternoon being black carded in the final ten minutes of the game also.
Kerry are looking to win six provincial titles in a row and it will take a good performance from Cork to stop them in their tracks. The threat is all over the field and if David Clifford is left with too much space then we know what the outcome will be. The winning margins for Kerry have been high in the last five years, 22,23,14,7 and 11 point wins but it could be closer this time around.
CORK
This will be Cork’s first time in the provincial decider since 2021 and memories of that final wont want to linger in the minds this year as it was a resounding win for Kerry.
Cork come into this in much better shape this year, they got promoted to Division 1 and thus got a day in Croke Park in the Division Two league final where they were beaten by Meath by two points in the end.
In the Munster quarter-final they racked up a big score against Limerick winning by nine points in the end on a scoreline of 4-16 to 1-16. The Rebels hit the net four times in the first half with goals from Dara Sheedy, Tommy Walsh, Sean McDonnell and Ian Maguire and that put them in pole position. Conor Cahalane and Brian Hurley would come off the bench and provide an impact.
In the Munster semi-final it was a similar performance from Cork where they rattled the net four times to win by fifteen points in the end against Tipperary, 4-18 to 1-12. Goals could be key again this weekend if they are going to get their name on the trophy for the first time since 2012.
VERDICT
With the threat of goals from both sides I can see this being quite high scoring, Cork will keep with Kerry up until the 60th minute or so but the Kerry power and pace in the middle of the field will let them stretch away close home to win by six.
