Week 6 League of Ireland Betting Picks & ACCA
The 2026 Cheltenham Festival comes to a close on Friday, but later that evening there are some huge matches taking place across the League of Ireland.
LOI TV Commentator Kieran Burke looks ahead to Friday’s matches and picks out some best bets to follow for week 6 of the LOI campaign.
Bohemians v Galway United, Fri, 7.45, LOI TV
Bohemians are off to a flyer with four wins and a draw from their first five and the Gypsies should be able to keep their early season momentum rolling when they host Galway at Dalymount Park. This is the final season before the famous old ground is demolished and rebuilt, so every game at the Phibsborough venue has a special feel about it.
Alan Reynolds side demolished Shamrock Rovers here last week, despite how the scoreline reads, and having beaten Galway 3-0 here in July, Bohs should be confident of following up.
Don’t necessarily expect a similar score line however, with United proving to be very competitive so far this term. Galway’s two defeats this year were both 1-0 losses, while they’ve drawn with Shelbourne and Dundalk, and they’ve defeated Sligo Rovers.
The signing of Frantz Pierrot should aid Galway in front of goal, but Bohemians should have way too much firepower with the likes of Dawson Devoy, Ross Tierney, Dayle Rooney, and Colm Whelan in the final third.
BEST BET: Bohemians (8/13) + 3pts
St.Patrick’s Athletic v Drogheda United, Fri, 7.45, LOI TV
It’s been a great couple of weeks for the Saints with three consecutive wins against Dundalk, Galway United and Shelbourne. The return of previously injured pair Max Mata and Aidan Keena appears to have injected some real confidence into a Pat’s side who had started the season sluggishly.
Drogheda United, meanwhile, have suffered back-to-back defeats having made a flying start before those losses. There are some concerns that recent off-field distractions may be taking a toll, particularly on manager Kevin Doherty, who was sent off during a recent defeat.
With St.Pat’s appearing on an upwards trajectory at some uncertainty over the morale within the Drogs camp, this should be a home win.
BEST BET: St.Pat’s (64/100) +2pts
Athlone Town v Cobh Ramblers, Fri, 7.45, LOI TV
Athlone Town look much improved this season, particularly in forward areas, and will be confident of continuing their record of scoring in every game this year when they host Cobh Ramblers. Athlone let the lead slip during last week’s 2-1 loss away to Bray, but to put things into context, Bray came within 90 minutes of promotion last season, while Athlone finished rock bottom.
The Midlanders now get set to face another top performer from last year, with Cobh Ramblers having finished second to Dundalk in 2025. Ramblers start to this season has been steady with a win and two draws, they’ve also scored in every game.
Ramblers took a point off title favourites Cork City last week and their experience may seem them shade this contest against an improving Athlone.
BEST BET: BTTS (8/13) +2pts
