Bayern Munich v Chelsea, Wed, 20:00
Will Harry Kane come back to haunt his old London foes? The England Captain and former Tottenham striker has started the season like a house on fire with 8 goals in five matches for Bayern Munich.
Kane has netted 8 times against the Blues during his career and is 4/5 to score anytime. Meanwhile, Kane is 16/5 to score first.
There is also an online boost available for Kane to register 3+ shots on target at 4/1 (up from 7/2).
While all eyes will be on Kane’s return to London, there is another Englishman who could have just as large of a say in Cole Palmer. The ex-Manchester City attacker has directly contributed to eight goals in his last eight matches in international competitions (G3, A5).
Cole Palmer to score first has been boosted online to 15/2 from 13/2!
Liverpool v Atletico Madrid, Wed, 20:00
It’s a perfect four from four for Liverpool this season, yet, Arne Slot’s Reds are yet to fully convince. Atletico were enduring a slow start to the campaign before the weekends 2-0 victory against Villarreal. Sluggish starts are generally not something Atletico suffer from in the Champions League with the Spaniards losing just one of their last 10 UCL openers.
Liverpool, of course, breezed through the league phase as table toppers last season with their Anfield form particularly strong. At home in this competition last season, Liverpool won all four of their games by an aggregate score of 10-1, that included a 2-0 win against Atletico’s big city rivals, Real Madrid.
Despite the daunting task of a trip to Merseyside, Atletico will be confident they can get something from this game given they won their final three away league phase games last term.
Liverpool won both encounters when these sides met in the 2021/22 group stages. The Reds have won their last four UCL group/league phase games against Spanish teams, while Atlético have beaten Premier League opponents just once in their last eight attempts (D2, L5).
Diego Simeone’s men have scored in 15 of their last 16 group/league phase matches.
Curtis Jones remains a major doubt for Liverpool, while Alexis Mac Allister was withdrawn with an injury against Burnley. Atlético will be without defender José María Giménez through injury, while Álex Baena misses out with appendicitis.
Latest Odds: Liverpool 51/100, Atletico Madrid 24/5, Draw 340/100.
PSG v Atalanta, Wed, 20:00
The Champions League & UEFA Super Cup holders PSG meet the Europa League winners of two seasons ago Atalanta in Paris. PSG struggled with the new format of this competition in the early stages last season with tonight’s visitors actually finishing two points and six places above the eventual winners in the league phase.
Atalanta, who are under new management, can lean on a solid record across their last 14 UEFA competition group/league phase games (W8, D5, L1), including an unbeaten run in eight such away games (W5, D3).
This is just the second meeting between these sides since PSG knocked Atalanta out of the 2019/20 UCL quarter-finals. That was Atalanta’s only defeat in five games against French opposition (W2, D2), while PSG are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 against Italian sides (W5, D6).
The following stats & trends suggest we could be in for goals when these two sides meet:
- PSG scored 3+ goals in four of their last six UCL home games.
- PSG have played 99 UCL games since their last goalless draw in the competition.
- Seven of Atalanta’s last nine UCL away games saw goals in both halves.
- Atalanta have scored in each of their last 15 European group/league phase away games.
For those of you considering a Bet Builder or player orientated bet such as a first or anytime scorer selection, do note that PSG duo Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué are ruled out for several weeks, while Atalanta will be without both Gianluca Scamacca and Éderson.
Ajax v Inter, Wed, 20:00
A repeat of the 1972 European Cup final which was won by Ajax. More recently, Inter Milan have been beaten in two of the last three Champions League finals with last season’s hammering from PSG leading to Simone Inzaghi’s departure.
New manager Christian Chivu is already under pressure after back-to-back defeats, including a 4-3 loss against old rivals Juventus at the weekend, that’s a defeat that never goes down well with the Inter faithful.
On the subject of managers, Ajax boss John Heitinga was a team-mate of Chivu’s at the Amsterdam club and while the former Everton defender has guided Ajax to an unbeaten domestic start, his big task will now be making a mark in this competition given Ajax have advanced beyond the group/league phase just once from four attempts since their run to the 2018/19 semi-finals.
This fixture could mark a difficult start to such a task given Ajax are winless in their last four H2Hs (D1, L3) and have failed to win their last 13 home UEFA games against Italian clubs (D6, L7). Inter are unbeaten across their last 13 UEFA games against Dutch clubs (W9, D4).
For overs backers, note that eight of Ajax’s last 12 UCL games saw over 3.5 goals scored. Such an occurrence to take place tonight is priced at 31/20.
As for players to watch out for, Ex-Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst has scored three goals in five Eredivise games this season. The Dutch forward is 7/1 to score first and 51/20 to net anytime.
Luataro Marinez is an injury doubt for Inter as is ex-United man Darmian. Marcus Thuram scored versus Juventus at the weekend and has three Serie A goals already this season. The Frenchman is 9/2 to score first and 11/8 to notch a goal anytime.
