Premier League Darts 2024 – Week 1 Preview by Shane McArdle

The new Premier League season begins this week Thursday (Feb 1st), with the opening night action coming from the Utilita Arena in Cardiff.

The tournament will see eight of the top darting stars contest across a 16 week mini-event format over the season, with each league night comprising of a quarter-final, semi-final and final format, all of which will be played over the best of 11 legs (first to six).

Each week’s winner will receive a £10,000 bonus.

Points will also be awarded each night, with five going to the winner, three to the runner-up and two to the losing semi-finalists, to form the league table from which the top four players will progress to the Play-Offs at The O2 in London on Thursday May 23.

The action will be broadcast live on Sky Sports from 7pm on Thursday evening.

(7:15pm) (19/10) Peter Wright v Rob Cross (2/5) (Prediction – Rob Cross, You can be forgiven for thinking that this will be a closely fought encounter, however, Peter Wright has been struggling for form for the last few months and Rob Cross is very much the form player coming into this and is a strong selection to get his league campaign off to the best start.) (8pm) (2/5) Gerwyn Price v Nathan Aspinall (9/5) (Prediction – Gerwyn Price, Gezzy Price is the home hero tonight in Cardiff and on recent form is a confident choice to defeat the World Matchplay champion in this exciting contest.) Correct Score Prediction – 6-4

(8:45pm) (1/2) Michael van Gerwen v Michael Smith (8/5) (Prediction – Michael van Gerwen, fresh from his win in the Dutch Masters last weekend, where he beat Luke littler in a thrilling final in Den Bosch, MVG is expected to continue his winning form against Bully Boy in this opening night match-up.) Correct Score Prediction – 6-4

(9:30pm) (19/20) Luke Littler v Luke Humphries (4/5) (Prediction – Luke Humphries, What a game we have on our hands here, Luke Littler has twice beaten the newly crowned World Champion and World No.1 since losing to him in the World Championship final, however Humphries will be out to put that right in this match and is fancied to do just that.) Correct Score Prediction – 5-6
