Man City v PSG preview
Manchester City put 114 distractions behind them to overcome Liverpool at an emotionally charged Anfield on Sunday and must now refocus their minds on a meeting with the back-to-back European champions PSG.
Sunday’s Premier League grudge match swung on a debatable sending-off for Ryan Gravenberch at a time when Liverpool looked to be getting on top, but despite the man advantage, it was difficult not to be impressed by the football City played in the final twenty minutes or so.
Jeremy Doku changed the game off the bench and could be rewarded with a start here, although he could also be in danger of falling into the super sub category, given that his incredible explosive pace has the ability to turn any game on its head.
PSG had the luxury of facing a lesser opponent at the weekend, meaning they could rest key players for this big European assignment, as they so often do. However, the French champions haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders this season. Luis Enrique usually brings his team to the boil when it matters most, but that approach could leave them vulnerable ahead of this trip to face a team that has an unblemished record so far this season.
Manchester City have lost just one of their last 25 home fixtures in the group stage/league phase of this competition (W21, D3), but they host a side that is unbeaten in their last 11 UCL fixtures. Incredibly, given the strength of the Premier League, PSG could become just the second side in competition history to avoid defeat in 10+ successive games against English opponents should they secure a positive result at the Etihad. There’s a sense of an immovable object meeting an unstoppable force about this heavyweight Champions League showdown.
However, despite PSG’s excellent record against English clubs, their record against this English opponent could read better. The Parisians have won just two of the prior eight H2Hs (D2, L4), and are yet to emerge victorious away at City (D1, L3), losing on each of their last three visits to the Etihad.
While Manchester City have kept a clean sheet in four of their last five matches, PSG have failed to score in just one of their last 26 matches in UEFA competition. Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into action a couple of times before City took control against Liverpool on Sunday, while Enzo Maresca’s men shipped three goals against Sunderland before the international break, so despite the stats, this City defence may not be infallible, especially against a level of opponent like this.

Team News
Phil Foden returns for Manchester City after serving a domestic suspension.
Senny Mayulu is likely to be PSG’s only injury absentee.
Predicted Lineups
Manchester City XI (Predicted): Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias, Guehi, Gvardiol; Anderson, Fernandez; Semenyo, Cherki, Ndiaye; Haaland.
PSG XI (Predicted): Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.
Verdict
This has the potential to be one of the best matches of the entire league phase. Manchester City are flying high despite all of the off-field drama engulfing the club, while PSG could establish themselves as one of the greatest ever European club teams should they win a third consecutive Champions League crown.
With so much attacking quality both on the pitch and on the respective benches, these two sides have the ability to cancel each other out, but it should be far from boring.
Prediction: Draw (29/10)
