MAN UTD v ASTON VILLA MATCH PREVIEW

Man Utd’s recent woes have received plenty of media coverage, but Michael Carrick remains as head coach. A storming comeback win against Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday lifted the roof at Old Trafford and made his position a little more secure for now.

Going into their Premier League match against Chelsea last Saturday, United were winless in eight games. Much as they lost 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, they had at least two good chances to go ahead in the game. Had that happened, who knows in which direction the game would have gone? The 3-2 win against Roma was desperately needed. The fact that it came from a position of 2-0 down will have done wonders for team confidence.

Villa had been going along nicely, with six wins in seven matches before their latest threE matches – a 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth in the League Cup, a 1-1 home draw with Fulham in the league, and, on Tuesday night, a 3-0 defeat at the Camp Nou by Barcelona in a bruising Champions League encounter.

They have played four games away from home in the league this season, winning 3-2 at Tottenham and 1-0 at Newcastle, but losing 4-0 at Brighton and drawing 0-0 at Hull.

MAN UTD v ASTON VILLA TEAM NEWS

Man Utd

Manuel Ugarte (knee) remains out. Marcus Rashford (hip) is in line for a return. Carlos Baleba (hamstring) is out. Luke Shaw (unspecified) looks set to be available but may not be risked until after the international break. Benjamin Šeško (shin) is out of the game, but Patrick Dorgu (hamstring) is expected to be available after returning to training this week. Lisandro Martínez is suspended (return date, November 22 v Liverpool).

With Baleba injured, Youri Tielemans could line up against his former side, playing alongside either (probably) Kobbie Mainoo or Andrey Santos, with Bruno Fernandes (two goals in his last six starts in this fixture) in front of them.

Aston Villa

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (thigh) could return this weekend., but Matty Cash is suspended, having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Fulham last weekend. Matteo Ruggeri (thigh) is very doubtful, while Amadou Onana remains on the sidelines with a long-term knee injury.

MAN UTD v ASTON VILLA PLAYERS TO WATCH

For Man Utd, it is hard to keep Bruno Fernandes out of the conversation. Two goals in his last six starts in this fixture plus a goal midweek (a retaken penalty) making it five for the season for the Portuguese playmaker. A double midweek will have done Mattheus Cunha‘s confidence a lot of good. He has scored four goals in his last seven starts for United.

For Villa, Nicolas Jackson has scored five goals in his last five league starts, scoring in four of those matches.
