EVERTON v COVENTRY MATCH PREVIEW
It was a good week for Everton as the Toffees claimed back-to-back wins over Newcastle, but now David Moyes’ men must prepare for a fresh test as they go up against Coventry on Friday night.
Frank Lampard‘s Sky Blues claimed a crucial win at home to Sunderland last time, but they remain just two points above the drop zone.
Putting the Jack Grealish saga to one side, David Moyes appears to have built a steady side at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the form of French striker Thierno Barry giving his team a major confidence boost.
Barry has scored four times in the league this season, and it was the 24-year-old who found the net for the only time in the game against Newcastle on Monday. The running power of Tyrique George, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Merlin Rohl caused Newcastle real problems on Monday night, and Coventry will have to try and find a way to stem the flow of Everton’s powerful runners.
Everton’s last nine Premier League matches have returned under 2.5 goals, suggesting creativity may be an issue, especially now that Grealish is on the naughty step. Thankfully, Coventry’s recent matches have been that bit more entertaining for the neutral, with over 3.5 goals clicking in five of the Sky Blues’ last seven games in all competitions.
Everton took the game to Newcastle at St.James’ Park on Monday before being forced to sit in and suffer in the later stages. That experience should stand them in good stead here.
EVERTON v COVENTRY TEAM NEWS
Everton have no major injury concerns, although Jack Grealish remains a doubt after missing last week’s EFL Cup victory over Newcastle for disciplinary reasons. Tyrique George also picked up a late knock in that game.
Coventry are hopeful that defender Bobby Thomas and midfielder Frank Onyeka will recover from minor injuries. However, Aurele Amenda, Haji Wright, Josh Eccles and Luke Woolfenden remain sidelined.
EVERTON v COVENTRY H2H RECORD
These sides have not faced each other in more than 25 years. Their last competitive meeting came in January 2001, when Everton claimed a 3-1 victory at Highfield Road. Coventry won the previous encounter 2-1 at Goodison Park on Boxing Day 2000.

EVERTON v COVENTRY PREDICTED LINEUPS
Everton XI (Predicted): Pickford; O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Garner, Armstrong; George, Dewsbury-Hall, Rohl; Barry.
Coventry XI (Predicted): Rushworth; Van Ewijk, Thomas, Pinnock, Dasilva; Torp, Yirenkyi; Sakamoto, Rudoni, Gboho; Awoniyi.
EVERTON v COVENTRY PLAYERS TO WATCH
This game could be decided by a battle of the opposing centre forwards. Everton’s Thierno Barry will be bidding to score for a third game on the trot, while Coventry’s Taiwo Awoniyi was on target against Sunderland last weekend.
Thierno Barry to score 2+ goals is price boosted online. (Was 6/1, NOW 7/1).
Former Forest striker Awoniyi is a real handful physically, meaning Toffees skipper James Tarkowski could be in for a bruising night. Tarkowski has been booked in three of his last four league and cup starts and may find himself in a few tussles with the Coventry forward throughout.
Former England defender Tarkowski is 16/5 to be shown a card during the match.
EVERTON v COVENTRY PREDICTION & BETTING TIPS
Everton struggled to adapt to their new home surroundings last season, but Chelsea are the only side to have come to their swanky new base and won this season. Coventry have lost three of their four away league matches this season.
BEST BET: Everton to win (7/10)
