Newcastle United v West Brom, 19:45, Sky Sports+

A promising start for Matthias Jaissle against Liverpool has lifted much of the doom and gloom around St James’ Park, with the Toon Army now hopeful that Newcastle can build on that performance, get past West Brom and embark on another deep Carabao Cup run.

The Baggies will arrive in a confident mood, having won all three of their matches so far in 2026/27 and scoring nine goals in the process. They have also found the net in each of those three games, so Newcastle will need to be wary of a West Brom side that has made a flying start to the campaign.

Best Bet: Newcastle win & BTTS (31/20)

Tottenham Hotspur v Charlton, 19:45, Sky Sports+

Roberto De Zerbi’s revolution could hardly have got off to a worse start on Saturday, with Spurs suffering a 3-0 defeat to Brentford. The Italian will be demanding a response. Charlton, meanwhile, have had no trouble finding the net, and they could add to their tally here. All three of Charlton’s matches this season have produced over 2.5 goals, suggesting another entertaining encounter could be in store.

Best Bet: Over 3.5 goals (23/20)

Preston North End v Everton, 20:00, Sky Sports Main Event

David Moyes goes back to where it all began, and he should be more than confident of EFL Cup progress. Preston have lost both of their Championship games so far, while Everton began their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Preston scored late in both of their Championship matches but may not have much left to offer if they go behind early here.

Best Bet: Everton -1 (11/8)
