Brilliant Broadstrand Syd Crowned Irish Sprint Cup Champ!

Broadcaster Kieran Burke reports on a thrilling Thursday night at Dundalk Stadium as Broadstrand Syd was crowned the 2024 Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup champion.

Broadstrand Syd is the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup champion for 2024! The son of Droopys Sydney clocked a time of 20.67 in a thrilling final as the eventual winner was pushed all the way by the Myles Roban-trained Elite Kursk in Thursday night’s final at Dundalk Stadium.

Having made the quickest getaway from the traps, Elite Kursk appeared to be gaining the upper hand on the odds-on favourite as the six finalists turned for home but Broadstrand Syd was not to be denied as he wore down trap six in the closing stages to claim the €20,000 first prize.

Speaking to Bar One Racing shortly after the race, connections of Broadstrand Syd described the win as “special” with focus already shifting to the Bar One Racing Laurels where victory for the Sprint Cup hero would bring up a €10,000 bonus alongside the lucrative €30,000 first prize.

Trainer John Linehan and Broadstrand Syd’s owners were presented with the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup trophy by All-Ireland football winner Niall Grimley with the Armagh midfielder’s recent Sam Maguire success being celebrated at the stadium on a triumphant night for all in attendance.

Attention now turns to next month’s Bar One Racing Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park with the competition launched last week in County Cork.
