Man City v Spurs – Preview

Manchester City will be looking to capitilise on Man United’s Selhurst Park slip up last night with a win at home to a Tottenham side who proved to be something of a bogey opponent last season. Tottenham did the double over the eventual Premier League winners  last season but arrive into tonight’s game with just 1 win in their 4 league matches post World Cup. Sunday’s North London derby defeat at home to Arsenal now leaves Tottenham five points outside the Champions League places with discontent appearing to grow around the club with the fans demanding more from the owners while manager Antonio Conte’s future seems to never be too far away from the headlines.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that if he can’t find a way to stop City’s mini slide of late that he will soon find himself facing questions despite signing a two-year extension during the World Cup. A surprise EFL Cup exit at St.Mary’s has since been followed up by defeat in the Manchester derby while Erling Haaland is on what he must consider a goal drought having failed to net in his last two games. While it’s only a matter of time before the Norweigian rediscovers his scoring groove, what perhaps is more worrying at present is just how little involvement Haaland has had in City’s last couple of games. Limited to very few touches and even fewer chances this is the first real mental test Haaland has had since his arrival in Manchester.

This will be Haaland’s first appearance against Tottenham in a game that throws up a clash of two of the worlds top strikers as Haaland faces Kane. Despite Tottenham’s struggles of late, Kane is excelling once again this season with 15 Premier League goals but even that tally pales in comparison to Haaland’s 21 league strikes. With a combined total of 36 goals in 36 matches this season, Bar One Racing is offering a number of Haaland & Kane Price Boosts on this evenings game.

Tonight’s live game on Sky Sports is also a DOUBLE THE ODDS First Goalscorer match with Bar One Racing and Spurs fans will be hoping that this fixture can spark Son back into life with the out of form South Korean boasting 7 goals against City during his career.

While derby day defeat to Arsenal on Sunday was the bitterest of pills for Tottenham supporters to swallow, the return of Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski was certainly a big positive for Conte’s side and he’ll have fond memories of the most recent meeting as Kulusevski netted an early opener in a crucial 3-2 win for Tottenham. Kulusevski could be a value anytime scorer bet at 11/2.

In terms of team news, John Stones and Ruben Dias have returned to training and are available for selection. Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur may feature after recovering from an injury picked up at the World Cup and given the Uruguayan has been booked 5 times in just 14 league games, he’ll be a popular booking selection with the midfielder 15/8 to be booked tonight.

It’s 2016 since Manchester City failed to win in three consecutive home games so history would suggest a returning to winning ways is not far away for the Citizens. Also, while City have fallen well below their usual standards in recent outings, Tottenham look extremely fragile at the moment which makes a trip to the champions one of the worst assignments they could face into currently.

VERDICT: Man City win (7/20)
