Bar One Racing is delighted to be unveiled as the new sponsor of the €100,000 Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase at Cork racecourse. This years renewal of the historic race will take place on Sunday 11th December with the runners and riders involved looking to add their names to a star-studded list of past winners.
Household names to have won the Hilly Way include Beef Or Salmon, who famously won consecutive renewals in 2002 & 2003 for Limerick trainer Michael Hourigan. In recent years, Willie Mullins has dominated the event with the likes of Douvan, Un De Sceaux, Chacun Pour Soi, and last year’s hero Energumene all proven top-level champions which is a further endorsement of the Hilly Way’s status and reputation.
In fact, Energumene began his march to Champion Chase glory in this contest 12 months ago and may well be one of the stars on show in the 2022 renewal, which will be televised live on RTÉ Racing.
Having won the Hilly Way Chase a remarkable 13 times, Willie Mullins is the most successful trainer in the history of the race while his stable jockey, Paul Townend is the most successful rider with six victories, the first arriving on Golden Silver in 2009.
Golden Silver also holds his own slice of Hilly Way history by being the only horse to prevail three times, completing three-in-a-row from 2009-2011.
Bar One Racing‘s sponsorship of the Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase at Cork is a further commitment to promoting and supporting Irish racing with the race joining the company’s sponsorship portfolio which already includes the Troytown Chase at Navan and the Winter Festival at Fairyhouse among others.
Speaking about his latest major sponsorship announcement, Barney O’Hare, CEO of Bar One Racing, said:
“We’re delighted to add the Bar One Racing Hilly Way Chase to our portfolio. This meeting will be the third consecutive weekend of high-profile sponsorships for Bar One Racing. The Hilly Way is the best two-mile open chase run before Christmas in Ireland, and very often the race attracts a big name. “Energumene could seek back-to-back wins in the race and his participation would drive interest in it. The people of Cork love their National Hunt racing and it’s great to be involved in their feature meeting of the year.”Welcoming Bar One Racing as title sponsors on Cork’s major card, Andrew Hogan, General Manager of Cork Racecourse added:
“We are thrilled to welcome Bar One Racing as sponsors of the prestigious €100,000 Hilly Way Chase. The support of Barney O’Hare and his team means a lot to us here at Cork Racecourse Mallow. “Thanks also must go to The O’Flynn Group, Singletons Supervalu and Finbarr Quaid Electrical for their support of the final fixture here in Cork in 2022. We are really looking forward to an excellent day of racing.”
