Dundalk Preview Friday 22nd January

Alan Marron is back to preview an excellent Friday evening card at Dundalk Stadium.

Another fantastic Friday card at Dundalk Stadium folks and there looks to be plenty of value to be snapped up. We just got the one winner on the board on Wednesday with Swift Verdict who was well backed. Hopefully a winner or two this evening.

Due to Government Level 5 Restrictions our retail estate remains closed. Don’t worry though as you can still avail of all the offers and specials by contacting our telebetting team or by checking them out on our website.

Off the back of a very good run last time MACABAN CITY looks to have every chance to get his head back in front here.

He will be four pound higher than his last winning mark but he showed no ill effects of the rise in weights when staying on strongly last time. When he won Mark Gallagher rode him out wide and he stayed on very well down the wide outside.

He was well punted the last day close to the off suggesting that connections expected a big run. He has a decent draw this time and should be able to slot in and hopefully come late and land the spoils.

Will be one of the main contenders here and should go very close.

I have followed MURAAHIN on a number of occasions lately and he looks poised to strike here on the back of the form shown when second to Kudbegood back in December.

He dwelt at the start last time when he finished fifth but if he can get back to the form shown before that he looks to have a solid each way chance. Kyanna Van Beuren was board when he was third at 80/1 last season and he really caught the eye on that occasion.

The handicapper has left him on a mark of 62 for five of his last six runs so I think with luck in running we can expect a very good run.

HARRIETS FORCE and Gearoid Brouder are back to a mile here and should go close as it looks like it’s her ideal trip.

She ran a very encouraging second to Bucky Larsson before finishing down the field in the listed Cooley Stakes behind a very impressive winner in Ummalnar trained by William Haggas.

She carries top weight here with Gearoid claiming seven and this looks a drop down in grade for her. She is only 3lb higher than when second at 33/1 and if she can come back to anything like that form then she must go close. She travels well in her races and she should see out the mile well.

Solid each way chance.

Shane Foley and John Mc Connell team up again with TANSEEQ and with luck in running I think this horse looks one of the best bets on the card.

In March 2020 this horse was racing off a mark of 70 and had previously run off higher marks in the UK. This time around he is in here off a mark of 60 and it he can improve off his last run then he should take all the beating.

He came to challenge inside the final furlong last time out when his momentum was slightly checked 150 yards from the line. I think he needs to be delivered late and fast and it will be no surprise to see Shane hold onto him for as long as he can.

If he gets a decent gallop to aim at he will be the one coming home strong.

My nap of the night.

While MUNFALLET is getting on in years and may be vulnerable to younger legs he knows his way around the all weather at Dundalk and looks to have a solid each way chance here.

He is drawn eight and Ross Coakley will likely go forward on him and make the running. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he gets enough of a lead to actually hold on.

He is only 2lb higher than his last winning mark on the all weather so he should have a decent run in him off that mark.

He is a consistent sort and should be hard to keep out of the frame.

Adrian Mc Guinness and Gavin Ryan team up here with STAR HARBOUR and it can show improvement from first to second run then it takes all the beating here.

It was well backed on debut when fifth behind The Highway Rat and that form has been franked by Cisne who ran well on Wednesday. This horse cost 290k as a foal and that increased to 400k as a yearling. He found plenty of trouble up the straight last time and with a clear run he must go close.

Connections look to have taken some of the early prices that were available as he has been backed into favourite.

I think it is rightly so and looks the one to beat here.

The market leader here is Lovely Esteem trained by Joseph O’Brien and while she should take all the beating she looks very short from a betting perspective.

On the other hand Michael Halford has a filly in here on second start who showed plenty of ability first time up and should improve. CIAO NAW was sixth of fourteen on debut at 50/1 staying on nicely up the straight.

She will have a hood applied on second start and if that can get her to concentrate she will have a solid each way chance here.

The form of that race has taken a couple of knocks since but she might be the one to look at in the betting without the favourite market.

BREAKFAST CLUB trained by James Mc Auley and ridden by Colin Keane really stands out here as one of the main contenders despite a poor draw in stall fifteen.

I am not overly concerned by the wide draw as I think this horse needs to be dropped in and be ridden off a strong pace. There is no better jockey than Colin Keane to navigate his way up the home straight at Dundalk. This horse was gelded and will have the tongue tie on for the first time on this occasion and we could see a totally different performance this time around.

He impressed me when he won in Cork back in September and then finished a creditable second to Arcanears over the course and distance. He is still relatively lightly raced for his age and there should be improvement to come.

With luck in running I think he will be very difficult to keep out of the frame.
