Vote to crown’s Irish sports person of the decade

Given the lack of live sport in recent months, it’s no surprise to see sporting nostalgia and the recalling of great sports moments, memories & heroes as a favourite pastime during lockdown.

Whether it was Ireland winning rugby’s Grand Slam, qualification for Euro 2016 and gunning down the reigning World Champions en route, or AP McCoy & Ruby Walsh flying the flag with major race wins at home and abroad for a little island, we truly have punched above our weight in the world of sport over the years.

With that in mind, are looking to settle the debate of who is Ireland’s greatest sports star of the past decade. The team here at have had the almost-impossible task of creating a shortlist of 32 Irish sports stars for you to vote on over the coming days via our Twitter account.

We will be running the competition via a World Cup-style format, with 8 groups of 4 people, with the top player in each group progressing to the knockout stages.
