ParisLongchamp preview as racing returns in France

The magnificent new stand at ParisLongchamp racecourse in France

Peter Kingston looks forward to Monday’s high-quality card in France

Racing returns to France on Monday and it does so with a superb ten-race race card from ParisLongchamp, one that contains three Group 3 races, a Group 2 and a Listed contest.

The action begins at 9:55am (UK/Irish time) and – cue Martin Tyler’s voice (how we’re missing it) – it’s  live on sky sports racing.

We are paying 1/5 the odds on 5 PLACES in the 10:25am, 10:55am, 2:05pm and 2:35pm races.

The opening race is the Prix de Saint Georges, a Group 3 sprint. Last year’s winner Sestilio Jet will once again be fancied but will have to do without the services of Frankie Dettori this year.

The Prix de Fontainebleau (11.55am) and is the French 2,000 Guineas trial. Last year Persian King completed the double. Favourite this year is the exciting and unbeaten Victor Ludorum, for Mickael Barzalona and Andre Fabre. Fabre has made no secret of the regard in which he holds this colt, who was last seen winning the Group 1 Jean Luc Lagardere on Arc weekend and it will be a surprise if he gets beaten.

The highly regarded Victor Ludorum is set to run in France on Monday

The French 1000 Guineas trial is the Prix de la Grotte (12:25pm) for which Tropbeau, who also runs for Fabre and Barzalona, is likely to be favourite. She was last seen when finishing third in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket to Jessica Harrington’s Millisle.

Castle Lady won this race and went on to win the French 1000 Guineas last year for Barzalona, so  he knows what it takes to succeed here.

The feature on the card is the Group 2, Prix d’Harcourt (1.05pm), a 1m2f race for 4yo+ which can be a fair trial for the Group 1 Prix Ganay. Cloth of Stars did the double in 2017.

Last year this prestigious race was won by Ghaiyyath for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. This year Sottsass will be hot fav for Cristian Demuro and Jean Claude Rouget. Sottsass was third in last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe behind Waldgeist and Enable nd that form absolutely stands out here.

Enjoy what should be a wonderful card at ParisLongchamp and the return of high-class live racing to our TVs. It’s most certainly a warm welcome back.

We are offering the VICTOR LUDORUM (11:55AM) AND SOTTSASS (1:05PM) DOUBLE at the BOOSTED PRICE of 2/1 – (Price correct as at 3pm on Sunday May 10th)
