CLONMEL PREVIEW TUES 24TH MARCH
Fresh from a good day of tipping at Downpatrick on Sunday, Alan Marron has run the rule over the card at Clonmel on Tuesday
Prices for Clonmel will be available via www.baroneracing.com
2.00 MAIDEN HURDLE 2m
FARMIX looks to have been found the ideal opportunity to shed his maiden tag in what doesn’t look to be the strongest race on paper.
The form of his second last time out was well franked over the weekend when Groody Rover bolted up in a handicap. Farmix had previously been second to a well-thought-of Willie Mullins individual in Lord Royal. Lord Royal went on to finish second behind Run Wild Fred in a 35k Grade Three Novice Hurdle.
Farmix,, while not being the biggest price in the world, looks to have a very good chance on all form shown and no doubt connections will be disappointed if he gets beaten.
2.30 MAIDEN HURDLE 2M 2F
This race took a bit of working out but the interesting jockey booking might be the way to go here. Robbie Power gets on board ELUSIVE STAR for Michael Hourigan and that, to me, looks like connections are expecting a big run.
Form is few and far between in this race but this horse ran in a very strong bumper at Gowran Park last time out when finishing down the field behind a very impressive winner in Bob Olinger. Elusive Star had been the subject of plenty of support for that race and it is quite interesting that they are going back over hurdles having finished fourth to Allez Dance earlier in his career.
Will be very hard to keep out of the frame here.
3.00 HANDICAP HURDLE 2M
SHANTOU SISU was very unlucky to go down by the smallest of margins behind Shopping Around and looks to have a strong chance of going one better here off a 3lb higher mark.
This gelding has been very consistent in recent months and deserves a change of luck. He has seen the back of Our Roxanne on two occasions and, while his consistency will see his handicap mark rise, I still think he will go very close here.
He will be at the top end of the market again here and, while the value may be gone, in the price, he looks a standout and is very hard to oppose.
3.30 BEGINNERS CHASE 2M
I am taking a bit of a shot in the dark in this race with the Colin Bowe-trained CUSHINSTOWN FINEST.
This mare ran a very good race when she was fourth to Emily Moon last time out. Emily Moon ran a very good race only to weaken late on at Thurles over the weekend behind Zero Ten in the Pierce Molony Grade Three. Cushinstown Finest should improve from her debut and has the ability to go close here and looks to be solid each-way value.
The one standout to me is that she has won two point-to-points and a maiden hurdle so the ability is there. Colin Bowe will have her well schooled and she is one to keep a close eye on in the market.
4.00 STEEPLECHASE 2M 3F
Cream will normally rise to the top and if DEATH DUTY can come back to some of the form he showed before his long layoff then he looks like he will be very hard to beat.
His return over the larger obstacles this season was behind Chris’s Dream in the Red Mills at Gowran Park. He then went to Cheltenham where he ran an absolute cracker finishing 10th in the Brown Advisory and Meribelle Plate. He looks like he is coming back to himself and he just ran out of petrol in the final stages at Cheltenham. This will be a big drop in grade. Gavin Brouder who rode him at Cheltenham keeps the ride and that is a good thing for any young jockey.
He should get a good spin here and go very close.
4.30 ADARE MANOR OPPORTUNITY HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE 2m 7f
The connections of Shantou Sisu will be looking to get a double on the card with WEST IS BEST and they have a strong chance of doing so.
This horse was a very well-backed third behind Misty Adage last time out and I think he has every chance of reversing the form here. He will likely be held onto a little longer this time around and hopefully can come with a late winning run.
He got tapped for toe in the vital stages the last day as he led at the last and then had no extra to go on with in his challenge.
He is only a seven year old so there is still improvement to come and he will be hard to keep out of the frame.
The Henry De Bromhead-trained YOUSAYITBEST looks the alternative value in a race that looks a two-horse war.
This horse was very impressive in a Moig P2P beating Gabynako by two lengths. One of the most interesting facts from that is that Gabynako was punted off the boards in his bumper from 13/2 to 7/4 and failed to oblige at Fairyhouse back on New Year’s Day.
If the Point-to-Point brigade think that Gabynako was good then overnight favourite Kilcruit could have something to worry about here in Yousayitbest.
Henry recently had an impressive bumper winner and this could be another one. This horse cost 220k after winning his point-to-point and he could be one name that we hear plenty about over the next season or two. This horse was pulled out on Sunday owing to ground conditions so I will take a chance that he runs here.
He could give the overnight market leader plenty to think about
