DUNDALK PREVIEW 28/2/2020
5.00 CROWNE PLAZA DUNDALK RACE & STAY HANDICAP (4yo+) Winner €6,490 14 runners 1m4f Standard RTV
TONKINESE was a real eye catcher last time out when he flew home from an unpromising position to finish third and could be worth following here with that run under his belt. That was his first run off a 50 day break and his second run for Joseph O’Brien after finishing down the field in a Leopardstown maiden hurdle. This horse was placed at Dundalk off marks in the high 80’s and this is something that Joseph will surely be able to exploit sooner rather than later as he is in here off 73. Dylan Browne Mc Monagle claims 7lb here and that will reduce the burden of top-weight a little more. If he can improve off the back of that run two weeks ago he should be one of the main contenders here.
5.30 EUROPEAN ROAD TO THE KENTUCKY DERBY RACE NIGHT CLAIMING RACE (4yo+) Winner €5,900 14 runners 6f Standard RTV
This race lacks quality due to the nature of the race but BELICK looks to have a solid chance here based on the ratings and has every chance to get another victory for Siobhan Rutledge. She gave it a great ride last time out and is nicely positioned here in stall six to adopt a handy position and come through with a late run and catch them close home. The race last time out had a solid look to it with the likes of Tribal Path, Ticks The Boxes and Ken’s Sams all in behind. That should be more than enough to go close here and looks to have a very good chance. John McConnell likes to get winners at Dundalk and this could be another one to add to the growing list over the winter months.
6.00 CRAIC AT THE TRACK 13TH & 14TH MARCH (Q.R.) HANDICAP (4yo+) Winner €7,080 14 runners 2m Standard RTV
For those of you who follow my previews you will be aware of how sweet I was on the chances of JERANDME last time out. The pace to the race was very slow and Jerandme finished off a very one paced third. I was quite disappointed by that run but I can see him improving off the back of it and stripping a lot fitter here. That run was off the back of 214 days off the track and no doubt Noel Meade will have lined up the summer festivals back over hurdles in the coming months. He is a thorough stayer so the step up in trip here might be exactly what he needs and he will be tough to beat. He was second in a 3m 1f hurdle behind Doctor Duffy which was an excellent run in terms of this race. His stamina could prove vital here and he will be very hard to beat. His form behind Royal Illusion has been well franked as I previously mentioned in other previews as the winner went on to win the Cesarewitch.
6.30 IRISHINJUREDJOCKEYS.COM MAIDEN (PLUS 10 RACE) (3yo+) Winner €7,080 14 runners 6f Standard RTV
UNITED FRONT is a very interesting runner for the Coolmore battalion with Seamie Heffernan on board. He made his debut at Newbury in a very hot maiden won by the Richard Hannon trained Temple Of Heaven. He improved on that run when fourth to Royal Lytham at Navan. Royal Lytham went on to frank the form by winning the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket. He was then 9th behind Pinatubo in the Chesham and that wasn’t a bad run considering the season that Pinatubo went on to have. This race should be well within his grasp on that form if he has trained on from two to three. If he is odds against in the betting he could be one of the bets on the night. Will be very hard to beat on the form he has shown so far.
7.00 WOODFORD RESERVE PATTON STAKES (LISTED RACE) (3yo) Winner €44,250 10 runners 1m Standard RTV
BATTLE OF LIEGE looks an ideal type for this race after he went and broke his maiden at Chelmsford on the 2nd November last under Donnacha for his dad Aidan O’Brien. This horse is a full brother to Group One winners Hit It A Bomb and Brave Anna and Irish 2000 Guinneas fourth Threeand fourpence. Battle Of Liege is the type to progress as an older horse and it wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever to see this horse win and win impressively. The time of the race at Chelmsford was good considering the way it was run. He has had a couple of months off to grow and come to himself and this looks the next step in his journey. Padraig Beggy who is an Epsom Derby winning jockey is on board and should get a very good spin with luck in running.
7.30 LOVE YOUR MUM AT THE RACES 20TH & 21ST MARCH HANDICAP (4yo+) Winner €7,080 14 runners 7f Standard RTV
CALLING TIME is a very consistent filly and she deserves to get her head in front following a series of decent efforts behind the Johnny Murtagh trained Lord Rapscallion. She has gone up 1lb in her last two runs and that should leave her competitive here. Scott McCullagh is on board here and he is son of Niall McCullagh so the association with Jessica Harrington is very strong. She has been running over a mile and the drop back to 7f should be perfect. She will get a decent pace to track and should outstay her rivals. She deserves a change in luck and it would be nice for the team to get her head in front.
8.00 FLOODLIT FRIDAYS CONTINUE AT DUNDALK STADIUM RACE (4yo+) Winner €7,670 6 runners 7f Standard RTV
LAUGH A MINUTE is a very interesting runner for Adrian Mc Guinness after joining from the Roger Varian stable. He was last seen finishing down the field in the Ayr Gold Cup over six furlongs and he returns here for his new stable after 160 days off over seven furlongs. He looks a classy individual and could be a promising recruit for his new team. If we look back on his form he has some very strong form lines, he was second in a very good renewal of the “Chipchase” at Newcastle where he finished second to a smart horse in Invincible Army. If he is fit and ready to go his form should be too strong for the others and he should be hard to beat. He is my nap selection for the night.
8.30 WINTER SERIES AWARDS DAY SATURDAY 4TH APRIL HANDICAP (3yo) Winner €6,490 14 runners 7f Standard RTV
We end the night with a very trappy contest and the Madeline Tylicki trained BRISEUSE DE COUER could be worth a small interest under a very strong jockey booking in Kevin Manning. This filly has some nice form and was very eyecatching behind a very smart winner in American Lady last time out. The most noticeable thing for me is that she was on her toes beforehand and looks a little temperamental. She has blinkers and a tongue tie fitted here as like last time and if she can settle down a little I would expect a very big run at a nice price. She was third to Dark Vader the time before that and we seen Dark Vader run a nice race at Lingfield under Oisin Murphy earlier this week to frank the form. Solid each way credentials here.
