Sunday December 1st, Fairyhouse
2.40pm – 2m4f Baroneracing.com Hatton’s Grace Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+)
This is the feature of what is a cracking card at Fairyhouse and this race looks set to produce a cracking good contest with Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and Henry De Bromhead unleashing some of their big guns.
This preview will contain two of the main contenders that, on form, should be bang in contention at the business end of the race.
HONEYSUCKLE: This mare is unbeaten and is a four-time winner at Fairyhouse and she should be very hard to beat here if she continues her progression.
The mares’ allowance leaves both herself and Apple’s Jade getting 7lb from the likes of Bacardys and Penhill. Her first run of the season was extremely impressive in beating Easy Game by 11 lengths. If she improves much more off the back of that, she is one of the most exciting mares in training and all roads should lead to Cheltenham.
She has won on all types of ground so there should be no issue there either. She will likely force the pace or sit handy and, for me, it will take a very good performance from any of the opposition to beat her.
She is my nap of what is a superb day of racing.

PENHILL: If anything is going to get close to Honeysuckle I would be very wary of Penhill, who is lightly raced in recent seasons. The last time we saw Penhill was when he was second behind Faugheen in the the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival of 2018. Willie Mullins has been very selective with how he has placed this horse and, if he has him 100% fit this time around, I would expect him to be the one staying on when the others have cried enough.
He is a two-time Cheltenham Festival winner and his class could prevail in a very good race.
It’s the sort of race that could be decided on the run in and hopefully we will get the excitement that the race deserves.
