In Klopp We Trust– by Declan O’Hare
With a lot of players heading for the exit door, notably Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, along with no plans to replenish the ranks with big-money signings and some questionable results in pre-season, it is a gamble Liverpool are taking on a hopefully injury-free season with the current squad.
But is it time to panic? Simply…No.
We have a passionate, charismatic manager in Jürgen Klopp, who has more tricks up his sleeve than a magician, a man who, with his backroom team, has guided Liverpool to three-successive European finals, the latest being a victory over Tottenham and a sixth Champions League crown.
Each year since taking the helm, he has instilled belief in the players that they can beat anyone and he gets the best out of each of them, which is evident from the teamwork shown on the pitch and the results they have been getting. He has turned Anfield into a fortress with, no team picking up three points there in the past two Premier League campaigns.
In his squad he has last year’s player of the year Virgil van Dijk, Golden Glove winner Alisson Becker and co-Golden Boot winners, Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah (Salah proving last year he was no-one season wonder).
In coming so close last year to a first Premier League title – one defeat in 38 games and one point off the winners Manchester City, a team that lost 4 games – there is belief that they can go one better. They only conceded 22 goals and scored 89, so they are solid in defence and can bang in the goals. Closing games out will need to be the main focus
With Manchester United solidifying themselves as the third-best team in Manchester behind Manchester City and Salford City, giving us more laughs last season than a comedy club, they won’t be seen as any threat to Liverpool. Honestly, Jerry Maguire would make more of a difference to boost their chances of silverware this season than Harry Maguire.
I believe a Europa League spot will be what they are pushing for towards the end the season…may the sixth be with them.
We will be back to hearing Ole’s at the wheel but, honestly, I would prefer Prince Philip at the wheel.
Chelsea losing their best player and having a transfer ban would make you think they won’t be challenging towards the end of the season for the title, but Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend and they do have a strong squad so it is possible they will be thereabouts at least challenging for a Champions League spot.
Arsenal have opened their wallets and, after letting the moths fly out, have started to spend so it will be interesting to see how they do but, again I think a best possible scenario will be a Champions League spot.
Tottenham, I believe, will be a team that will definitely get a Champions League spot with the others scrapping it out for the final spot.
Finally, I believe last season will be similar to this season, where it will be a two-horse race between Manchester City and Liverpool, with this time Liverpool getting their head in front at the finish line
