It’s another big week for racing with Group or Listed races taking place at Roscommon, Leopardstown and Fairyhouse in Ireland, and the July Festival at Newmarket, the John Smith’s Diamond Jubilee Cup at York, Group 2 action at Ascot  and a Listed Race at Chester among the races in Britain.

The Irish racing is listed first with the key British racing following on.

Racing in Ireland this week

Monday 8 July

Roscommon, 6pm – A flat card that €60,000 Lenebane Stakes (Listed, 11f149y, 3yo+, 8:30pm)

Tuesday 9 July

Roscommon, 6pm – A National  Hunt card that features the €20,000 Connolly’s Red Mills Rated Hurdle (7:30pm, 4yo+, 2m4f208y)


Thursday 11 July

Leopardstown, 5:50pm – A flat card that features the following:

  • €100,000 Irish Stallion Farms EBF ‘Nasrullah’ Handicap (10f, 3yo+, 7:25pm)

Limerick, 2:45pm – A National Hunt card that features the €30,000 Galway Races Galway Plate Trial Handicap ‘Chase (5:50pm, 2m6f50y, 4yo+)

Navan, 1:55pm – A flat card that contains the following:

Sunday 14th July

Fairyhouse, 2pm – A flat card that features the €75,000 Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Brownstown Stakes (3:45pm, 7f, 3yo+ fillies)

Sligo, 1:45pm – A National Hunt card made up of six hurdle races and a bumper; the main race is the €20,000 Kevin Egan Cars Opportunity Handicap Hurdle (2 miles, 4yo+, 3:25pm)

Key British Racing

The highlight of the British week is the three-day July Festival at Newmarket, which runs from Thursday to Saturday, July 11-13, but some details on the Saturday and Sunday meetings, including Newmarket, York, Ascot and Chester (and more) can be found below

In terms of midweek racing, there is the £50,000 Pipalong Stakes (Listed Race) at Pontefract on Tuesday and a £30,000 Optional Claimer at Yarmouth on Wednesday

There is a £20,000 fillies’ handicap on the Ascot card on Friday (the meeting starts at 2:15pm), while Ascot‘s Saturday card (starts 1:45pm) includes the following:

  • £100,000 Heritage Handicap(5f, 3yo+, 1:45pm)
  • £140,000 Group 2 Fred Cowley MBE Memorial Summer Mile Stakes (4pm, 7f213y, 4yo+)
  • £50,000 Woodford Reserve Handicap (4:35pm, 1m3f211y, 3yo)


York race on Friday and Saturday. The main race on Friday is the £65,000 Group 3 Summer Stakes (6f, 3yo+) and, on Saturday, on a card carrying £385,400 in price-money, the main races are:

They also race on Saturday at Newton Abbot (2:”5pm start, with a £22,500 feature, a handicap chase), Salisbury (5:50pm) and Hamilton Park (6:05pm)

On Sunday, they race in Britain at Perth (2:05pm), where the feature is a £20,200 handicap chase, and Stratford (2:25pm), both jump meetings.
