With dual Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Enable – who has a total of nine Group One races to her name, including this year’s Eclipse Stakes and last year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf – heading the market, Saturday’s King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot already had its headline act.
However, with the 2017 Japan Cup winner, Cheval Grand, this year’s Epsom Derby hero, Anthony van Dyck, this year’s Group One Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner, Crystal Ocean, this year’s Group One Coronation Cup victor, Defoe, this year’s Group One Prix Ganay winner, Waldgeist, and last year’s Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes winner, Magic Wand, also in the field, Saturday’s British Group One summer racing highlight has the look of a race to savour.
In total, eleven horses are set to line-up in a bid to grab a share of the £1.25million in prize-money. The race is due off at 3:40pm.
In total, Ascot’s Saturday card (they also race on Friday) is worth £1.553million. Among the other races are the following:
1:50pm – £50,000 Group 3 Princess Margaret Keeneland Stakes (2yo, 6f)
2:25pm – £45,000 Porsche Handicap (3yo, 8f)
3pm – £150,000 Moët & Chandon International Stakes (handicap, 7f, 3pm)
4:15pm – Wooldridge Group Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed Race, 2yo, 7f)
