Dublin Racing Festival the highlight in week ahead

Huge crowds and top-class racing are guaranteed on Saturday and Sunday at the Dublin Racing Festival

Will Reilly looks ahead to what promises to be a superb week of racing

It is a huge week for racing in Ireland, with the Dublin Racing Festival set to take place on Saturday and Sunday. Over €1.8 million in prize money will be on offer over two days of racing that will include eight Grade One contests. It is a meeting to savour.

Britain is also well served by good racing, with the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase meeting taking place on Saturday at Sandown – champion hurdler Buveur d’Air could run in the Contenders Hurdle on the same card – and Musselburgh staging a valuable Saturday/Sunday fixture that includes, on Saturday, the Edinburgh National and, on Sunday, Scottish Trials day.

Also on Saturday, Wetherby will stage the Grade 2 Towton Novices’ Chase and Lingfield will run the Winter Derby Trial, one of two £45,000 Listed Races on the all-weather card.

Here are the main details on Ireland’s and Britain’s horse racing between Monday 28th January and Sunday 3rd February 2019, starting in Ireland.
