Friday Grand Slam Of Darts

Shane McArdle thinks Gary Anderson will be back with a bang to retain his UK Open title.

Grand Slam Of Darts 2018 Saturday Preview

The £450,000 bwin Grand Slam of Darts began on Saturday November 10 and runs to Sunday November 18 at the Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton, as the normal venue, the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, is currently undergoing a two-year renovation.

The tournament sees 32 players from the PDC and BDO organizations face-off in this tournament for the newly titled Eric Bristow Trophy.

Michael van Gerwen is the reigning champion. He won the tournament last year by beating Peter “Snakebite” Wright 16-12 in the final to win the tournament for a third-successive year.

My Verdict:

It may be a difficult task to stop Michael van Gerwen winning this tournament for a fourth year running, as the green machine came out on top following an epic second-round match against “Bully Boy” Michael Smith on a 10-8 scoreline. The match contained 17 180’s (six for Smith and 11 for MVG).

But Gary Anderson has also been on top-form all the way through this tournament and will be keen to win this fantastic tournament for the first-time, having finished runner-up back in 2011. Gary Anderson is my confident selection to lift the newly named Eric Bristow trophy on Sunday evening.

The entire tournament is being shown live on Sky Sports.

Here are the Saturday November 17th (Best of 31 Legs) match predictions:

  • (7:15pm) Michael Unterbuchner v Gary Anderson
Prediction – Gary Anderson -6.5 legs – Michael Unterbuchner is the last BDO representative standing and has had a fantastic tournament with the highlight being his impressive 10-6 win over James Wade in round-two. But this looks to be a step too far as Gary Anderson has been winning convincingly by not really having to come out of first gear and he is fancied to inflict a heavy defeat to his young more inexperienced rival.

  • (8:45pm) Jonny Clayton v Michael van Gerwen

Prediction – Jonny Clayton +6.5 legs – Jonny Clayton has been in fantastic form in this tournament and actually beat Michael van Gerwen in the group stages. MVG has been getting better with each game played and is likely to be too good as regards making the semi-finals, however I expect “The Ferret” to push him close and strongly fancy the Welshman in the +6.5 legs market in tonight’s quarter-final match.

  • Gary Anderson -6.5 and Jonny Clayton +6.5 @ 2.8/1

  • Hat-trick Double – Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen @ 7/4
