Dundalk’s form of late has been impressive, winning their last three games without conceding a goal. Most recently and memorably was last week away to Cork winning 1-0 with a goal after three minutes. Dundalk’s home form this season has been nothing short of brilliant, winning 12 out of a possible 15, with only one defeat in those 15 games.
Derry’s recent form in the league isn’t what you’d expect from the Candystripes; losing one game out of their last three. Derry’s form on the road shows a great deal of inconsistency, they’ve only won two games on the spin this season, and lost four on the bounce at one stage.
I can’t really see this match being any trouble for the home side having played each other three times this year with Dundalk winning two games and drawing the other, scoring 10 goals and conceding three. One thing’s for sure you’re nearly guaranteed goals when these two teams meet. Derry seem to attack the games with the same mind frame every time – with free flowing football.
However, Dundalk really should have too much in the tank for them on a night that could all but clinch the league if they get over the line with a win. Derry’s form is very stop-start. After winning the League Cup against Cobh Ramblers you just thought the corner was being turned, but since that game they’ve lost out on their last hope of European football by losing at the hands of Bohemians 3-1 in the FAI Cup.
Dundalk will have the same squad to choose from as last week’s game against Cork, their only two absentees from the squad are club captain Stephen O’Donnell who suffered a leg break vs Waterford at the start of the season and is still recovering from it. The other one missing is Lithuanian international Karolis Chevdukas who went under surgery last week in London for an ankle injury that’s halted him all season.
Derry City, like Dundalk, will have the same panel to select from as Saturday’s game against Shamrock Rovers, the only one to miss out will be Dan Seabourne.
This game is going to provide goals and quality entertainment for the viewers in the crowd and people watching live on Eir Sport.
The form of the two teams gives you an indication that it’s going to be Dundalk running out winners. They will want to put on a good performance for the home fans as they know a win will essentially win them the league.
So for me I’m going to go with a comprehensive win for Dundalk FC – Dundalk -2 @13/10
